TECHNOLOGY FOR THE MORTGAGE INDUSTRY

The secondary mortgage market includes both the resale of individual mortgages to investors as well as the sale of shares in a pool of mortgages as a Mortgage Backed Security. Consumer mortgage debt has never been such a large portion of bank assets. Craig Focardi, senior analyst in the Consumer Credit practice at TowerGroup says that proposed changes to the Basel Capital Accord regulations will dramatically alter for financial services institutions (FSIs) not only the minimum capital requirements for credit, market, and operational risks, but portfolio credit risk measurement and reporting requirements. In addition, mortgage default is once again on the rise. Basis100 provides a suite of mortgage risk and portfolio assessment and decision tools that help investors decide if, when, and how to sell their mortgage investments. Automated Valuation Models and tools help investors assess the ongoing risk in their portfolio. Companies such as Reavs provide these tools as part of their complete mortgage suite. Canadian company Algorithmics Inc. provides risk analysis tools for institutions where mortgages are one of many investments in their portfolio. |
